How To Attract Your Ideal Customer: Instagram Edition
Before you get sucked into the Instagram scroll of death, how can you use Instagram to attract your ideal customers?
A few things to note for your Instagram will be a content strategy that attracts those you want to work with or sell products to, what you're putting in your bio, and how you communicate with your audience.
Here are five tips to start attracting your ideal customers on Instagram.
Optimize your bio
As a small business owner, you want to take full advantage of your Instagram bio, and what you're choosing to write to capture your ideal customer's attention. Here are a few things to note and implement for a fully optimized bio.
Utilize targeted keywords in the name field. For example, mine is — Karli | Branding + Web Design.
Explain how your services or products will help solve your ideal customer's problems.
Choose a relevant and clear profile picture. If you're a brand, make sure your logo is legible and fits the space or if you're a personal brand (like myself), use a professional or high-quality photo that showcases you and your face.
Provide an external link in your bio to direct your ideal customer to your website or a page on your website that gives direction. Use a link directly linked to your website instead of a LinkTree or something similar because it interferes with your user's journey on social media to your website.
Utilize the highlights to give an overview of your services, products, client reviews, etc. Just another spot to host information that your ideal customer can quickly view.
Use a call-to-action in your bio that tells your ideal customer what to do next—for example, joining your newsletter, inquiring about your services, or implementing a promo code for your shop.
Infusing personality into your content
Your ideal customer will likely buy from you because they can relate to a personal connection, not solely based on your services or products. Here are a few ways to infuse your personality on your Instagram page.
Share an experience that ties into entrepreneurship or what you're selling. What makes you different?
Write a few adjectives that describe your brand and how you want to communicate with your audience.
Tell personal stories. For example, lessons you've learned in business or personal interests that you think your customer can relate to.
Tip: This can be done via posts or in your stories!
Aligning content
Align your content with your customer's interest in mind. Think about what will attract them. What's going to draw them into your services or products? How are you, personally, going to stand out from your competitors?
One way I like to think about it is just speaking to one specific person. It makes creating content so much easier and will help you focus on your target audience and messaging when creating your posts, carousels, reels, and talking in stories.
Quality and valuable content
Provide valuable and quality content, always! Your delivery can be as many or as few times per week, but it should always be of value and quality when you're posting.
Don't overwhelm yourself with having to post every day because you honestly don't need to. Try to post three times a week, and then adjust from there. Make sure you're looking into your insights on Instagram for what days your audience is most active and what time is most optimal to post and engage.
