6 Benefits of Blogging

Blogging is one of the biggest organic marketing strategies that you can do for your small business. Let’s get into it.

  1. Drives traffic to your website. There are multiple factors into how it drives more traffic to your website such as using keywords, SEO tactics, and linking your blog posts on Pinterest. Every time you post a new blog to your website it’s alerting the search engines (Google) that you have new content to be crawled.

  2. Converts traffic into leads. When you’re posting new content to your site, visitors have more opportunity and reason to click through, binge your latest content, and eventually make a sale or inquire about your services.

  3. Contributes to social media efforts. If you’re only relying on social media for your marketing efforts, I highly encourage you to branch out and start a website or add a blog to your existing one. When you write long-form content aka blogs, it’s easier to create multiple smaller social media posts from that singular blog post.

  4. A blog builds trust with your customers. Providing your customers and visitors with a space where they can learn more, and get answers to questions they might have will build that trust factor.

  5. Helps boost SEO. Blogging and utilizing SEO tactics will help push you ahead of your competition, especially if you’re competition is locally based. Hot tip: Using relevant keywords that your customers are searching for will help your post rank higher on Google.

  6. Creates more exposure for your business. Blogging simply builds brand awareness because there are people out there searching for your services and products that you offer, and if you’re writing about them — they will be found.

These are all just small snippets of what blogging can do for your small business, so this me just highly encouraging you to add that extra value that will see results in the long-term.

So now that you know the benefits of blogging, I have some tips on getting started. I even have a few ideas per industry to jump start your blog today!

Tips on Getting Started

Starting a blog shouldn’t be too tough because it should be surrounding topics that you’re knowledgeable on.

Think of a blog as a resource for your customers and visitors. What categories would your customers like to learn about? What themes can you talk about in relation to your product and services? That’s where you’ll want to start. Figure out 3-4 main broad categories you’d want to write about.

For example, mine are:

Within each of those categories, you’ll start brainstorming topics to write about. My favorite way and easiest way to do this is by keeping a running list of ideas in the notes section on your phone. I feel like my ideas are always at the most random times, so it’s handy to just jot down when the thoughts come to you.

After you have some good topics written down, you’ll want to get organized. Placing these topics into a content calendar of some sort will help you stay consistent while publishing quality content. When you’re publishing quality content on a consistent basis will help your blog and website traffic views go up.

Next, you’ll want to decide how you’re going to generate traffic to your blog. Other than just implementing SEO tactics into your posts, you’ll want to think of ways to get that content into the eyes of your customers. That could simply be adding the link in your Instagram stories, Instagram bio, posting a post/reel about it, pinning your blog, sharing the link via LinkedIn, sending your email list to said blog post — the possibilities are endless.

To help you get started, I’ve mapped out a few blog topics per industry.
