How to Market Your Small Business on Instagram

Marketing your small business on Instagram can be highly effective – especially when you have a strategy that works for you.

And it doesn't have to be complicated, and you don't have to be on it every day to see results.

I'm sharing a few ways you can leverage this app to reach more of those dreamy customers you so badly want to work with or sell your products to.

Let's get into it.

#1 – Establish clear goals + strategy

Think about what you want to achieve on this app. Do you want to increase brand awareness? Drive traffic to your website? Generate leads?

When creating your content strategy, consider content that will resonate with your audience — creating a mix of educational, inspirational, and entertaining posts/reels that will surely keep your audience engaged.

Creating a better marketing strategy will help steer your content in the right direction.

#2 – Optimize your profile

If you're still using a personal account, you'll want to switch that to a business account to gain all of the insights + analytics.

Then you'll want to make sure your username + title are relevant to your business and your profile photo. If you're the face of the brand, make sure to show that pretty little face of yours! If you're an online shop, use a legible logo + one that represents your biz.

Lastly, your bio must be short, clear, and punchy. Utilize keywords that resonate with what you're offering or selling, and be sure to say who your offers or products are for.

Oh – and don't forget to add that link (now multiple links option)! People like to be told what to do.

#3 – Leverage those hashtags GF

Hashtags are not going anywhere and are still very relevant to your marketing strategy.

Hashtags help increase the discoverability of your content. Research popular and relevant hashtags related to your industry, products, or services.

These hashtags must be specific to your post, so think about what your caption or reel says and find ones that resonate.

But don't get caught up – valuable content will always come on top.

#4 – Engage with your audience

It seems like a simple task but often gets kicked to the curb. I've been guilty of posting + ghosting because I was lazy or had other things to do.

Building relationships with your audience + followers is crucial for your Instagram success. You'll want to respond to comments and DMs and engage in conversation.

I've learned from my girl Shannon the 10/10/10 rule. You take 10 minutes to engage with stories, 10 minutes to engage with your feed, and 10 minutes to respond to comments and DMs or discover new ideal customers through hashtags or searching keywords.

Trust me, it works – and it keeps you accountable!

#5 – Utilize your stories

Instagram stories will be one of your most significant engagement + selling points.

Stories allow you to be casual and share personal interests and everyday life. And that's what your audience wants to see, to be honest.

To engage them with your stories, use the polls and question features or sliders to get answers to questions you might have and simply for engagement purposes.
