Working From Home During the Pandemic

This is such a weird time for the world. Working from home during the pandemic might be tough for the first few days, but there are ways to enhance productivity, positivity, and make the most of it.

For me, working from home is a second nature because I’ve been doing this for nearly a year now. So, you could say I’ve been training for this. (trying to keep it light here y’all  ) If you’re new to the working from home scene, I’ve shared a few tips + tricks below.

Tips + Tricks For Working From Home

  1. Make yourself a designated space in your home. Whether that be a desk area, the kitchen table/island or the coffee table – this will help with productivity since you’ll be “going into your office space” every day. Everything will be in one place.

  2. Set the ambiance. There will be days like today, overcast and rainy, that you’ll want to light a candle and play through an entire Spotify playlist of John Mayer. (I highly suggest this!)

  3. Get up and move. Since you’re home, you might as well make your time useful. Take a 10-15 minute break every so often to do laundry or take your pup outside for a walk to get some fresh air. If you have an Apple watch, abide by the STAND UP notification – don’t just hit dismiss

  4. Get in a routine. Just like you’d be heading into the actual office, get yourself back into a routine. If that’s waking up to workout/ meditate, getting ready for the day, and grabbing coffee before diving into emails – do that.

  5. Take a lunch break. If you’re used to sitting at your desk and eating while working, take this time to relax and enjoy your meal. Maybe turn on a podcast for 15-30 minutes while you eat.

  6. Set time boundaries. This one took me awhile at first, but once you set loose boundaries of when to log off for the day you won’t feel as drained. If nothing is urgent, stop your work before dinner and enjoy the night with your loved ones, or read a book, or unwind with a glass of wine or choice of beverage! Everyone has their own way of winding down.

  7. Don’t get distracted by your phone. Most jobs require being on the phone. For example, calls and meetings or if you’re managing social media accounts – you know you have to use it throughout the day. Set time frames of when you’re using it or simply turn it on silent and place it face down and/or put in another room until you get your top tasks done. If you do work in social media, the desktop version of Instagram has finally upgraded to upload photos, send direct messages, and post IGTVs.

  8. Snack healthy and hydrate – plain and simple.

  9. If there are two or more of you working from home, try and separate into your own space/ rooms. I’m currently at my desk area downstairs, and my husband has set up a temporary table in the spare room. Since he’s on calls most of the day, he has the option to close the door when needed and be less disruptive to me and my furry interns.

  10. Stay calm and go about your day as you normally would if you were in your work office. There will be days where you post up on your couch, and that’s okay! Everyone is adjusting to work from home situation right now too.

I hope everyone is staying healthy, at home, and taking it day by day.
